Emma Althea Lake Humphreys and her brother Charles Wilbur Lake, called Charlie.  There definitely is a family resemblance and both of them reflect their somewhat well-to-do upbringing.  Emma was known to have made her other relatives aware of her pride in her background even though we know that she, her mother, Sophia Matilda Taft Lake, and her siblings had their times of struggle and deprivation after the untimely death of their father Valentine Amey Lake in Rockton, Illinois.   To her, "keeping up appearances" was important.
